What is the Ketogenic Diet?

A ketogenic diet is a low-carbohydrate diet that has been trending for the past few years.

The goal is to get more calories from fat and protein and fewer calories from carbs. One should limit their carb intakes that are simple to digest, especially arbs like processed sugars, sodas, sweets, and white bread.

The diet works by lowering the body’s sugar reserves, and it forces the body to use fat as a source of energy and will cause weight loss.

This results in the formation of molecules known as ketones, which the body uses as fuel.

Ketones are a type of molecule that gets produced when fatty acids break down. They then release their stored energy which the body can use ketones for fuel, leading to weight loss because it will need less food intake to meet its demands.

When you eat less than 50 grams of carbohydrates per day, your body will run out of blood sugar to use as a primary source of energy.

This usually takes 3 or 4 days. People who follow these low-carbohydrate diets stop eating foods they would normally eat and instead eat low-carbohydrate foods.

How do I start a Ketogenic Diet?

What is keto?

When you’re in ketosis, your body starts breaking down proteins and fats for energy.

This process is ketosis – and it’s the natural result of following a low-carb diet.

As you break down these big molecules into smaller ones, your body will start shedding pounds. Many people get surprised by the easy weight loss.

The ketogenic diet is a short-term weight loss diet that is popular with many.  It can be restrictive, but it has shown the potential to provide rapid weight loss results. It’s also known to improve insulin resistance.

Lose weight faster

People lose weight up to 20% faster on a Ketogenic diet1https://parade.com/1168776/nicolepajer/keto-weight-loss-how-fast-long-does-it-take/. This is much faster weight loss than conventional diets provide in the first 3-6 months. This may be because fat conversion requires more calories per gram than carbohydrate conversion.

A ketogenic diet is most often used by individuals to lose weight.

It also assists in regulating certain medical disorders such as epilepsy. It accomplishes this through the diet’s natural anti-seizure properties and also results in biochemical changes to the brain.

It’s known to provide benefits for those dealing with a variety of ailments, such as cardiovascular disease, brain illnesses, and even acne.

We need more research in these areas before we can definitively say it alleviates these symptoms.

It’s very important to first consult with your doctor.

They will be able to determine whether a ketogenic diet is right for you. If your doctor asks “what is keto?” then you may want to look for a doctor who is more knowledgeable about nutrition and Type 2 Diabetes.

This level of dietary change can have negative side effects if you have type 1 diabetes, so it is very important to know the difference between Type 2 and Type 1 diabetes.
