I heard that people with Type 2 Diabetes are more likely to get Covid-19?
Covid-19 is a scary illness. Those who have any type of diabetes face a higher risk of experiencing worse health outcomes. It does not look like they have a greater chance of contracting the virus. This means that there is not yet enough data to tell us if you are more likely to catch it. For now, it appears that the risk of getting Covid-19 is the same.
What can you do?
Follow the recommended safety protocols. This will help decrease your risk.
Make sure to:
Wash your hands often
Limit time spent in enclosed spaces with others
Cover coughs and sneezes
Avoid touching your face as much as possible
It’s also helpful to:
Take vitamin C and D3
Taking Zinc + trace copper is helpful for fighting viruses
Eat a healthy diet rich in leafy greens
Get your high blood sugar under control
You have Type 2 diabetes. Now you have Covid-19. What the heck are you supposed to do now?!?
Symptoms
If I have Type 2 diabetes will my symptoms be worse with Covid-19?
People who have type 2 diabetes, have a higher rate of severe complications and death. This is already higher than people without the disease. By the time we get Covid, we are already at a disadvantage.
The more health conditions one has, the higher the chance of severe complications from COVID-19. Diabetes and heart disease are two such complications. Older people are more likely to experience these heartbreaking complications.
People with diabetes can experience severe symptoms when infected with any virus. Covid-19 is no different. People with diabetes who are also infected with COVID-19 are at a higher risk. The risk is higher for the terrible outcomes that can happen.

Lower your risk
You can lower your risk of complications. Your risk is likely to be lower if your diabetes is well-managed. If you have diabetes, and you are not keeping your blood sugars under control you will get sicker with Covid. Managing your blood sugars is the best insurance against disease. Highs and lows in your blood sugar levels keep you at risk. Many serious health complications are due to untreated diabetes. Covid is much riskier for diabetics.
Diabetes makes sufferers vulnerable to a whole range of complications. Coronary heart disease is a common occurrence. This can make the body’s ability to fight off infection much more difficult. Covid affects the heart and lungs. Diabetes can damage the heart. When the heart is already damaged, your risk of serious complications from COVID-19 increases.
The nature of the relationship between viral infections and diabetes still remains unclear. We know that viral infections may increase swelling in people with diabetes. This is due to high blood sugar levels and both of them may contribute to more severe complications.
If you already experience swelling with your diabetes you will want to talk to your doctor. Swelling is a sign of kidney disease. High blood pressure often causes this. High blood sugar causes high blood pressure. This is from damage to the blood vessels.
